General Information
The choir department at CGHS is one of the largest departments in the school and has nearly 400 students enrolled. No prior music experience is necessary to be a part of choir. Our curricular ensembles are listed below:
  • Beginning Mixed Choir: open to all freshman men and women and all experience levels. Meets during 1st and/or 4th period.
  • Advanced Mixed Choir: sophomore through senior men and women with intermediate/advanced choral skills. Meets during 3rd and/or 8th period.
  • Bel Canto Choir: audition-only group of sophomore through senior women with extensive choral skills. Meets 2nd period.
  • A Cappella Singers: audition-only group of junior and senior men and women with extensive choral skills. Meets 9th period.

There are also several extracurricular choral ensembles and organizations -- please see their individual activity pages for more information.

Eligibility Requirements
Any student may join the non-audition curricular choirs.
Joining Procedures
See your counselor to add choir to your schedule -- it's that easy!

Auditions for top ensembles:
We hold auditions in April for our audition-based ensembles, Bel Canto Choir and A Cappella Singers. If you are not currently enrolled in choir but would like to be considered for one of these top ensembles, please listen for announcements beginning early 4th quarter.
Time Commitment
There is no out-of-school time requirement for curricular choir students except for mandatory concerts. The choir department presents three concerts per year:
  • Fall Follies
  • Holiday Choral Concert
  • Spring Choral Concert
Meets
We meet daily during the school day. Students can choose to take choir 5, 4, 3, or even 2 days a week if their schedule allows only a few days of participation.
